IN ON IT e-learning project

IN ON IT - a web-based teaching and learning resource to support the education of children who are without a school place

The aims of the IN ON IT project are to

  • provide e-learning tools for teachers and learners
  • develop thinking skills and learning about learning
  • harness the benefits of e-learning
  • work towards embedding the use of ICT in teaching services that support pupils with special educational needs/cognitive difficultes/significant gaps in their learning
  • achieve economies of scale by providing a centralised London service hub
  • maximise networking between London LEAs and with other e-learning initiatives
  • create a model of sustainable development

This project provides on-line curriculum resources geared specifically to the needs of children and young people with cognitive difficulties and/or significant gaps in their learning.

The project uses and develops a thinking skills-based pedagogy and through the IN ON IT training programme develops and empowers teachers to maximise the use of ICT to deliver effective, personalised teaching.  The project also achieves economies of scale by sharing resources between authorities.

Pilot work (supported by QCA, Becta, NUT and LGfL) was completed in 2006.  The Post-pilot phase of development will complete at the end of March 2008.

During the 2007/8 two training courses have been developed – one focusing on the pedagogy and the other on how to develop IN ON IT materials.  A website has been developed through which teachers will be able to access the materials and pupils will be able to save and upload their work.

From April 2008 the IN ON IT teaching materials and training resources will be available on the IN ON IT website for use by target client groups -  hospital and home tuition, traveller education services, looked after children education services, PRUs, teenage pregnancy services and teaching services for young offenders.
